A vein disease that effects millions - Varicose Veins

As many as forty million Americans suffer from varicose or spider veins. About 50 to 55 percent of American women and 40 to 45 percent of American men suffer from some form of vein problem. Varicose veins affect one out of two people age 50 and older. Women generally experience varicose veins more frequently than men. Other than gender, factors that can lead to varicose veins include heredity, pregnancy, age, obesity, physical stress or trauma.

Varicose veins, which are left untreated, tend to worsen over time. Varicose or spider veins can lead to:

• Leg soreness or pain
• Tired, "burning" legs
• Swelling and aching
• Ulceration, blood clots, skin color and texture changes
• Blood clots
• In extreme case large varicosities can bleed
