Varicose Veins Treatment:
Surgical and non-surgical options

When treating varicose veins one must remember several facts. Treatment is possible because we have two systems of veins: a superficial vein system and a deep venous system. This is important because we have "veins to spare." Getting rid of these blue, ropy varicose veins will not affect the circulation.

Memorial Vein Center employs surgical and non-surgical methods in the treatment of varicose veins.

Surgical removal: ambulatory phlebectomy

Minute incisions are painlessly made in the skin and the affected vein is removed in segments. Recovery is short and return to activity is fast.

Non-surgical removal: ablation

Ablation treats the varicose vein from the inside. It uses heat delivered into the vein, via a catheter. This is done either with radio frequency energy or laser energy.

Radio frequency

A special catheter is inserted into the varicose vein. The catheter is equipped with a tip, which gets hot. Once the catheter is in place, it is heated causing the vein to shrink and is eventually absorbed by the body.

Laser Treatment

Heat generated by laser is used to destroy varicose veins.
